Holiday Dressing, Courtesy of the ASOS Sale

11 Nov

Ah the holiday party dress. You wear it for one season and then it goes to the back of your closet, resurfacing only when it’s time to make a trip to Goodwill.

Which is why I was super psyched to brows ASOS’ holiday dress sale today. They’ve discounted a ton of their already reasonable holiday sparkles, as well as some more high-end options that are far too beautiful to wear only once.

Here are my top 5 picks:

5. The Corporate Party, $56.95

Your boss has booked a super-sexy space, but you don’t want to end up being That Girl Who Wore The Really Short Dress To Last Year’s Holiday Party. The solution: a simple, strapless silhouette with an asymmetrical hem. Because being completely covered up is never any fun.

4. The Boho Sparkler, $200.23

The sleeves keep it appropriate for a workplace gathering, but the length says Happy New Year.

3. The Man Eater, $277.65

Beautiful beading will make your friends ooh and ah, while the body con fit and micro mini length ensure that you’ll definitely have a kissing partner this NYE.

2. Like It’s 1999, $50.72

Relive your favorite scene from Clueless in this slinky, sparkly slip dress. No one will dare accuse you of looking Monet. Promise.

1. The Ultra-Feminine Stunner, $355.96

It takes a lot of confidence to stay this covered when everyone else is showing skin. But the extra fabric makes the dress much more versatile, so you can totally wear it to your work party, then pull it out for friend’s fall wedding next year.

From Racked To Reality

20 Mar

My friend Danielle emailed me this Racked piece with a one-liner attached: “OMG YOU NEED THIS OUTFIT!”

Yes. Yes, I definitely do.

What I do not need, however, is to spend $1620 replicating it down to the Manolos.

Fortunately, I possess an enthusiasm bordering on bloodlust for bargain hunting and well-executed fast fashion. So I managed to copy the outfit almost exactly for under $300. Here’s how I did it:

Lime Green Sweater: Asos, Metallic Leather Skirt: Asos, Shoes: BCBGeneration

A quick note on tailoring: Midi skirts aren’t for everyone. In fact, I’m not even sure I’ll love this length forever (although I do love the work-friendliness of a midi). Fortunately, I know a good tailor who will hem my leather skirt into a rockin’ mini for about $40. Problem solved.

Crazy Pants

8 Mar

Jeans are great, but after years of wearing them everywhere from five star restaurants to the dog park, I’m more than ready for the pants trend. And this spring, it’s all about the prints.

Whether worn with a half-tucked tuxedo shirt or a sweatshirt and hi tops, these printed stunners have me swooning.

Cellar Soiree

30 Jul

Now that we’re nearing the end of summer, I’m starting to think ahead towards the inevitable “best of 2012” roundups I’ll have to write as we get closer to the holidays. The Abbot’s Cellar‘s opening in the Mission this month is solidly in my top five favorites (scroll down to find out why), as is the outfit I wore to its media preview. There’s something about this boho-meets-rocker-chick look that fits my personality perfectly.

{{{ Seven For All Mankind Jacket, Equipment blouse, fLuXuS tank, Marc by Marc Jacobs coated denim (similar here), JJ Winters bag, Kelsi Dagger pumps, Chanel sunnies, Rings: A Peace Treaty, House of Harlow 1960, Bell Jar, Bracelets: Linea Pelle, spikes similar here, Sequin, CultureKitty}}}

With the outfit situation under control, I headed off to the Mission to see the finished Abbot’s Cellar space for the first time. It was love at first sight. Scroll down for highlights and read my Rundown review here.

How gorgeous is this bar?

20 beers on tap. Yes, the bartenders need a cheat sheet to remember which is which.

Loads of reclaimed barn wood make this huge space feel warm and inviting, yet still very modern.

The seating area near the two-story beer cellar towards the rear of the space has an outdoor patio feel.

My adorable tasting glass.

I’ll be back for a full-sized portion of this pickled albacore appetizer.
